Taiguara Mateus: "My only goal is to thrive as a footballer"
In a recent interview, Taiguara Mateus, a 39-year-old defender from Doha Falcons, spoke about his career as a professional football player. With an exceptional skill level, and an even more exceptional recent form, Mateus is on top of his game. When asked what he likes the most in clubs in general, Mateus responded, “I always appreciate a club that invests in team chemistry and culture, as this can make or break a team’s success.”
Mateus has played four matches this season and has taken extreme practice ethics to heart. “My only goal in life is to thrive as a footballer, even if that means sacrificing everything else around. No friends, no fun. Just work all day every day,” he said. The player takes his body seriously and is taking all the steps to have a long, healthy career. “I treat my body like my most important asset - even if that means turning down fun late nights or new athletic challenges,” he said.
When asked what his favorite club to play against is, the 39-year-old admitted it is the AVL. When it comes to formations and styles, Mateus prefers 3-5-2 when defending. His current team is Doha Falcons, and is currently ranked 7th out of 10 teams, with 18 goals conceded this season. The player is also on the club's transfer list.
When it comes to his life off the field, Mateus remains focused and determined. In an interesting random fact, the player revealed that he is a self-proclaimed movie enthusiast who loves to watch classic films.
